The week three college football AP Poll was released on Sunday, and Georgia fell two spots to No. 6 after their 28-6 win over Austin Peay. Normally UGA fans would be furious to see the Bulldogs fall in the rankings after a win, but this felt more than fair after witnessing their struggles against the Governors on Saturday.
However, LSU also had an uninspiring win on Saturday as well, yet the Tigers somehow did not fall in the rankings like Georgia.
AP voters gives LSU special treatment that Georgia deserved
As mentioned, Georgia dropped two spots in this week’s AP Poll after beating Austin Peay by 22 points. LSU on the other hand stayed put at No. 3 in this week’s poll after only beating Louisiana Tech by 16 points.
How does that make any sense? Georgia had a better win than LSU yet the Tigers didn’t fall in the rankings like UGA did?
The only explanation for this is due to LSU’s week one win at Clemson, but that win may not be as strong as everyone originally thought. Clemson only beat Troy this past weekend 27-16, and they even trailed Troy 16-0 at one point. So LSU’s win over Clemson really isn’t as strong as it may seem.
Regardless, AP voters need to start showing some more consistency. If they are going to punish Georgia for a bad win then they need to punish every other team that had a bad win as well. If not, then their rankings really don’t mean all that much.
Georgia however has a chance to prove themselves this weekend as they travel to No. 15 Tennessee. A win in this game and the Bulldogs likely will slide back into the top five and no one will be able to argue against it.
