Even if Matthew Stafford's illustrious NFL career is winding down, the former Georgia Bulldogs star quarterback seems to have checked the latest box on his way to probable Canton enshrinement. During the Los Angeles Rams' latest victory over the season, Stafford completed 24-of-36 passes for 280 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. His great performance sank San Francisco 42-26.
As Stafford marches on toward a probable Pro Bowl season, he is very much in the NFL MVP race for the 7-2 Rams. This may be his age-37 season out of Georgia, but there still looks to be something great in tank. Furthermore, Stafford's impressive numbers in his 17-year NFL career have crossed a very important threshold. He has joined some of the very best to do it in this one particular category.
After throwing for four touchdowns in the Rams' big win, Stafford now has over 400 in his NFL career!

After what Stafford just did, here are the only players in NFL history to throw 400 touchdowns passes.
- Tom Brady: 649
- Drew Brees: 571
- Peyton Manning: 539
- Aaron Rodgers: 521
- Brett Favre: 508
- Philip Rivers: 421
- Dan Marino: 420
- Ben Roethlisberger: 418
- Matthew Stafford: 402
Every one of those quarterbacks are either in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, or shall be there soon...
Matthew Stafford has unofficially crossed the threshold for Canton
While Stafford is probably never going to make it into the College Football Hall of Fame, the former No. 1 overall draft pick by the Detroit Lions in 2009 is pretty much a lock to make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame now. He ranks inside the top 10 in passing yards and touchdowns. He may only be a .500 quarterback in his career, but keep in mind how bad the Lions were during his time there...
Although he predated the College Football Playoff era, some Dawg fans wonder what Stafford's 2007 team could have done in a four-team format, much less a 12-team format... What nobody debates is he is the most physically gifted quarterback to play at Georgia. When all is said and done, he will likely be joining Fran Tarkenton in Canton. Stafford's cannon and Tarkenton's legs changed the NFL game.
In the end, Stafford's career passing numbers were always trending in this direction. Win or lose, he almost always got his numbers. That being said, he has finally joined a team that can get the most of his talents. He did lead the Lions to the playoffs a few times before being traded to the Rams. His deal to Los Angeles that sent Jared Goff to Detroit was one of the best trades to help both franchises out.
Congratulations on hitting this career milestone! Here is to 500 potentially being within reach for you.
