Georgia fans have been watching a lot of drama unfold out in LA over the last month.
The Rams are home to two former Georgia quarterbacks, one of which is Matthew Stafford who just won the NFL MVP this past season. Even with that being the case the Rams still decided to draft quarterback Ty Simpson in what was one of the most shocking draft decisions this year.
It’s customary for a team’s starting quarterback to welcome all of their new rookies to the team, and Stafford did that with Simpson. He however took that opportunity to make a subtle joke that will make Georgia fans smile.
"I sent him a text after he got drafted and said, ‘Really enjoyed watching you play [at Alabama], you were just in the wrong jersey.’" 😂

Mathew Stafford reminds Ty Simpson who’s the top dog in the SEC
Alabama was the No. 1 team in the SEC for the longest time. No program in the history of college football can stack up against what they accomplished under Nick Saban, but this season the Tide officially became a thing of the past.
After failing to beat Alabama two times in a row since Saban left, Georgia finally got the better of the Tide this year in the SEC Championship game while Simpson was their quarterback. Combining that victory with Georgia’s SEC title one year earlier allowed them to undeniably take over the top spot in the SEC hierarchy.
Sure Stafford and Simpson are on the same team now, but Stafford surely will take any opportunity he gets to remind Simpson that Georgia is the king of the SEC now.
Stetson Bennett has an opportunity to continue Georgia’s dominance over Ty Simpson
Simpson is fresh off losing to Georgia in the SEC Championship game, which Stafford hilariously reminded him of upon his arrival in LA. Now it’s Stetson Bennett’s time to put the final nail in Simpson’s coffin.
Bennett and Simpson will compete all year to become Stafford’s backup this season. Bennett may be at a disadvantage because his contract expires this year, but he still has a shot to prove why he deserves to stay in LA.
Unfortunately for Bennett, Stafford signed a contract extension this offseason which will keep him in LA for two more seasons. This means there’s even less of a chance that the Rams will resign him because they can just roll with Simpson instead who will be a cheaper option. But if Bennett dominates Simpson this year they may have no choice but to resign him.
Bennett’s future in the NFL is hanging in the balance, but that is when he’s at his best. Georgia fans have already been cheering him on, but this new competition with Simpson will fuel both Bennett and his fans even more.
