Memories of a 5-star QB flip shouldn't worry UGA fans when it comes to Jared Curtis

When it comes to five-star quarterback recruit Jared Curtis, he is not going to pull a Dylan Raiola...

Every player and every situation is different. While there was a ton of hoopla surrounding Jared Curtis last weekend in Nashville, the five-star quarterback remains committed to Georgia. ESPN College GameDay was in Curtis' hometown to celebrate all that is great about Vanderbilt football right now. While the Commodores did try to roll out the red carpet for him, Curtis was only visiting unofficially.

Although Curtis uncommitted from Georgia before, that was over a year ago. He initially committed to Georgia back in late March 2024 before re-opening his options at the end of last season. Curtis then re-committed to Georgia back in May of this year, taking his official visit to Athens in June. During his recruitment, this Nashville native has already visited Athens six times, more than to anywhere else...

It should be noted that head coach Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo have made in-home visits with him this calendar year. What really stands out is Bobo made his way to Nashville on Oct. 24, the day before Curtis made an official visit to Vanderbilt. As long as Bobo remains Georgia's offensive coordinator, Curtis feels like a lock to come to Athens. This is different than Dylan Raiola.

Curtis has the right to do whatever he wants, but expect for him to enroll at Georgia this January.

Jared Curtis is not about to go full-blown Dylan Raiola on Georgia now

For those who need a refresher, here is how Dylan Raiola's five-star recruitment from a few years ago went down. The son of Nebraska legendary offensive lineman Dominic Raiola originally hailed from Arizona. He was looking at a handful of schools, including Georgia, Nebraska and Ohio State. Raiola initially committed to Ohio State before flipping to Georgia during the 2022 college football season.

Raiola notoriously bounced around from high school to high school, including moving to suburban Atlanta to play his senior season at Buford, a school notorious for being a honey hole for non-Georgia teams in the south. He played his senior year at Buford before flipping to Nebraska right before Christmas. This all came on the heels of Carson Beck choosing to come back for another season.

Again, Raiola is a Nebraska legacy, as his father starred there and his uncle was on Matt Rhule's staff. In his two years so far in Lincoln, he has helped UNL achieve bowl eligibility in back-to-back years. This is something he, his family and the entire fan base should be proud of, given how arduous of a past decade it had been for the Huskers. Raiola committing to play for Nebraska was always in play.

As far as Curtis is concerned, he knows that Gunner Stockton has one more year of eligibility to use. He is closer to Bobo than even Curtis is. Drew Bobo is Stockton's best friend. Mike Bobo's father was Stockton's quarterbacks coach growing up. While Raiola had an affinity about Bobo too, as his father was Matthew Stafford's center in Detroit, it did feel like his recruitment was built on a house of cards.

At this time, it is going to take another perfect storm for Curtis to conceivably de-commit from Georgia a second time. Vanderbilt may still be the team to watch, but no other program has really put the time and work into landing this five-star quarterback's commitment quite like Georgia has. Not Alabama, not Oregon, not Vanderbilt, not anybody. It is not like Georgia has never landed five-stars...

Georgia landed Stafford, Jacob Eason and Justin Fields all as five-stars coming out of high school.
