Now that Miami has made a magical run to the College Football Playoff National Championship game, everyone is talking about Carson Beck. Not only is Beck playing extremely well right now, but he made the shocking decision last offseason to leave Georgia and transfer to the Hurricanes.
This decision has been heavily ridiculed from Georgia's perspective all year, but for the most part UGA has fully moved on from his decision. But now that Miami is doing what Georgia couldn't, everyone is talking about how good of a decision they think he made.
That includes certain members of Miami's athletic department who are praising Beck for coming to Miami. That really isn't that big of a deal, but one statement in particular is a lame attempt to make Georgia look like the bad guy.
“Carson Beck was as broken of a human being I’ve seen,” Miami executive director Dennis Smith said via sports.yahoo.com. “He didn’t want to go back to college. Had no choice. People ran him out. Confidence problems. Very angry at the world.”
Miami is doing everything they can to make Georgia look like the bad guy
Miami execurtive director Dennis Smith is an elite recruiter for the Hurricanes. He is likely part of the reason why Beck chose to go to Miami in the first place. But for some reason he is claiming that Georgia ran Beck out of time and treated him horribly.
That however couldn't be further from the truth.
In reality Beck made the decision to enter the NFL Draft which he had every right to do. Keep in mind that he made this decision (and subsequent decision to return to college and transfer to Miami) without talking to Georgia's coaching staff at all. Beck also was nowhere to be found during Georgia's CFP prep last season as well.
So why is anyone surprised that Georgia was ready to move on from him? Beck made it clear he no longer wanted to be part of the team and even declared for the NFL Draft, so Georgia did what any program would do and started preparing for the future with a new quarterback.
Miami however is trying to spin this story and say Georgia did something wrong, but that couldn't be more false.
Unfortunately Miami gets the last laugh because they are playing for a national title, but the fact that they are claiming Georgia did anything wrong is a bit ridiculous.
