Miami still chasing 5-star Georgia commit Kemon Spell despite recent rejection

Miami is still aggressively pursuing five-star running back Kemon Spell even though he just reaffirmed his commitment to Georgia. Spell has been committed to Georgia since February, but earlier this week a report surfaced indicating that Miami was in hot pursuit.

Spell immediately denied having any interest in Miami after this report surfaced, but according to a new report that isn’t stopping the Hurricanes from still going all out in his recruitment.

Miami isn’t slowing down even though Kemon Spell is locked in with Georgia

Miami doesn’t care that Spell publicly shot them down this week, they are still just as motivated to flip him from Georgia. Spell said he is all in on Georgia, but with four months left in his recruitment Miami has zero plans of stopping their pursuit.

Georgia likely hoped that Miami would stop pursuing Spell after he publicly denied having any interest in them. The Hurricanes are one of the biggest NIL spenders and are coming off a season where they made it to the National Championship game. There aren’t many programs with more momentum than them right now, so out of every school in the country Miami likely has one of the better chances to actually flip him.

Thankfully Spell isn’t interested right now, but in recruiting that can change. Even though Spell’s been committed to Georgia for nearly six months and has remained loyal throughout, that can change any given day.

Georgia fans are familiar with how fast things can change, and they only have to go back one year to find an example where a top ranked commit broke their hearts.

Jared Curtis’ decommitment from Georgia last year gives UGA a reason to pause with Kemon Spell

Last year Jared Curtis was Georgia’s five-star quarterback commit who flipped to Vanderbilt at the end of the recruiting cycle. His recruitment could make Georgia pause a little with Spell because there’s always a chance something similar could happen with any elite recruit.

Spell and Curtis are identical recruits, just at different positions. Spell is the No. 1 running back in the country and Curtis was the No. 1 QB in the 2026 recruiting class. Curtis was committed to Georgia for about five months before his relationship with Vanderbilt started to ramp up, and that’s about as long as Spell’s been committed to Georgia.

The difference is that Spell hasn’t shown any interest in Miami while Curtis was publicly visiting Vanderbilt and showing he could flip at some point. But with any recruitment things can drastically change, and that could always happen to Spell too.

For now Spell has shown he is different from Curtis. He is remaining loyal to Georgia, and that is something Curtis didn’t do. Miami however isn’t going to slow down their pursuit of Spell, so they are a team to watch throughout the next four months as Georgia tries to get Spell’s commitment to the finish line.

If Miami and Spell continue to be publicly linked then there could be an actual relationship forming between them, but until that happens Georgia should take Spell’s word for what it is because he hasn’t given them any reason to doubt him up to this point.
