So far Georgia has been able to survive the end of the regular season without losing one of their assistant coaches. After countless big name programs fired their head coaches it seemed like there was a good chance one of Georgia’s top coaches would be on their way out. That thankfully hasn’t happened yet, but there is still a chance it does any day now.
Michigan is the last remaining marquee job still open, and it’d be hard for anyone at Georgia to turn that job down. Some Michigan fans think they should target Kirby Smart, but that obviously wouldn’t work out too well for them. But Glenn Shcumann is a name that keeps getting floated around that is a lot more realistic.
Michigan Football: Current Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann is rumored to be on Michigan’s shortlist of head-coaching candidates. He has worked for Nick Saban and Kirby Smart and is highly regarded.

Georgia assistant could be Michigan’s next head coach
Michigan made it clear that their top two choices to replace Sherrone Moore were Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham and Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer. Dillingham however just signed an extension and DeBoer has shown zero interest during Alabama’s playoff run, so the Wolverines now have to pivot and look elsewhere.
That is where Schumann comes in because he is ready to become a head coach for the first time in his career. Is he ready to take over at a big program like Michigan? No one can know for sure, but Smart got his first opportunity at Georgia and that’s clearly worked out for him so the same could happen with Schumann.
Georgia fans however are hoping Schumann does not leave. He has more than proven his worth to the program this season as he has Georgia’s defense playing at an extremely high level. Obviously he is going to leave at some point, but the longer that takes the better for Georgia. But his name continues to be linked to Michigan and with every passing day the chances of him heading north will continue to increase.
