Something has to change with the Georgia basketball program. They just made the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row which is a feat absolutely worth celebrating, but the Bulldogs fell short in the first round in both of their trips to the Big Dance.
Not only did they fall short, but they were embarrassingly blown out in both games as well.
Making the NCAA Tournament was always the goal for Georgia when Mike White was hired, but that goal has since changed now that they've gotten a taste of postseason play. Now Georgia's goal is to win a few games when they get to the NCAA Tournament, and White recently detailed what he is changing in order to help his team accomplish that.
"Obviously I didn't press the right buttons at times, but there also has to be some level of accountability. I'm going to challenge our guys this year again and maybe talk about it even more."

Mike White is changing tactics to better prepare for future NCAA Tournament appearances
The above quote from White makes it seem like the whole team knew that their goal was just to make it to the NCAA Tournament. It sounds like all season they didn't really care about making a run in the tournament just as long as they made it there.
Obviously they wanted to win once they got to the Big Dance, but up to that point that was not their goal. So when it came time to actually play there was a feeling that they already accomplished their biggest goal and the season was already a success. If that was their only goal all season it's hard to just flip a switch in a few days and care about something else.
White however has other plans going forward. It sounds like he is going to talk to his team about what their expectations should be, and that is to make a run in the NCAA Tournament. Their new goal is to win a couple games once they get to the Big Dance, and if they talk and prepare for that all season maybe they will actually be ready when the ball is tipped in their first tournament game this season.
The new era of college basketball came at the perfect time for Georgia
College basketball has been transitioning to a new era since the implementation of NIL, and so far Georgia has fallen behind. Since NIL they have been one of the SEC programs with the least amount of resources, but that changed earlier this offseason when they received a $10 million donation.
This donation will help make Georgia more competitive in the coming years as they improve the strength of their roster, and combining that with a great coach in White who has already been to the Big Dance twice shows that things could get really interesting in Athens.
The NCAA Tournament also just expanded to 76 teams beginning this season, and that will help ensure that Georgia keeps qualifying as often as possible.
White's new coaching tactics combined with NCAA Tournament expansion and this donation put the Georgia basketball program in a rare position. It actually feels like they have a chance to compete against the best of the best for years to come, and as long as White is in control of the program anything feels possible.
