Every Georgia fan loves them some football. Recently though the basketball program has woken up and given fans a lot to cheer for as well.

Head coach Mike White deserves a lot of credit for turning the program around as they have made the NCAA Tournament two years in row now. At Georgia though it is never a guarantee to get back to the Big Dance, unless of course they get some outside help.

The good news for Georgia is that they did get some help in the form of a $10 million donation to the basketball program which is the largest individual donation in Georgia athletics history. Yes, you read that correctly, $10 million is going to Georgia basketball instead of football.

Mike White receives the gift of a lifetime that could change Georgia basketball forever

Georgia basketball has always been one of the bottom feeders in the SEC. That has started to change the last two years, but they need to do much better than blowout losses in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Many fans likely thought that first round exits in the NCAA Tournament was as good as it could get for Georgia. Most of those fans were probably alright if that was the case as well. But this donation will take Georgia to another level, and if things go right it could make them a legit threat for years to come.

Just how much could this donation help improve the program? All you need to do is look at how Georgia's done in the Transfer Portal the last two years and imagine how this influx of cash could change everything.

Georgia basketball could finally become a Transfer Portal threat

Georgia for two years in a row have lost a vast majority of their best players to the Transfer Portal at the end of the season. This may have to do with the fact that Georgia isn't a historically great basketball program, but the lack of NIL money probably played a big role in their departures as well.

Georgia also hasn't been able to add any big names out of the portal either. They have gotten some really solid players to come to Georgia, but if they want to compete for championships like the football team they need better players on their roster.

This donation should help them accomplish that.

Georgia's roster for the upcoming season is already set, so this money won't impact anything right now. But next offseason is when fans could really expect to see some major changes. This money could convince Georgia's best players from this year to stay in Athens and not enter the portal. It also could help Georgia land a really good player or two out of the portal as well.

All it takes is for Georgia to have one good season to be respected as a legit basketball program, and this donation finally makes that seem possible.

Regardless of what happens it's clear that White has the program moving in the right direction. Donations like this don't happen for failing programs, so it'c clear that people are believing in White and where the program is heading.

Georgia fans will always have a good football team to cheer on, but they may be getting a championship contending basketball team in the coming years to support as well.
