Today has been a day in the wonderful world of college basketball. After denying with every fiber of his being that Baton Rouge was calling out his name, former North Carolina State head coach Will Wade is on his way back to LSU. What is shame? More importantly, what does this unexpected turn of events have to do with Georgia? Well, Mike White appears to be a candidate for the NC State position.
From this graphic, you can see that White is one of the 10 candidates to replace Wade at NC State.
NC State has another coaching search on its hands with Will Wade set to go back to LSU. Who will Boo Corrigan target for his second hire in as many years?

Other names mentioned for this job by Noah Fleischman of On3 include Saint Louis Billikens head coach Josh Schertz and Vanderbilt Commodores head coach Mark Byington. The big takeaway from White being in consideration for the job is he seems to have a rapport with North Carolina State athletic director Boo Corrigan. They are reportedly tight. White's brother is also a Power Four AD, too.
White is probably not Corrigan's first choice, but he has to be on the shortlist for this ACC vacancy.
Why would Mike White leave Georgia for North Carolina State this soon?
White's tenure leading Georgia has been a mixed bag. Yes, the Bulldogs have won 20-plus games a season in back-to-back-to-back years. They have also qualified for the NCAA Tournament in consecutive postseasons for the first time in decades. Of course, Georgia has been embarrased in the Round of 64 the last two NCAA Tournaments, first to Gonzaga, and now to Schertz's Billikens...
So when White left Florida for Georgia, Gators fans were not exactly sad to see him walk away. Three years later, and Todd Golden delivered UF its first national championship on the hardwood since the Billy Donovan years. Time is a flat circle, and we all know this... However, there is a non-zero chance that White would leave UGA for NC State. Let's be real. Georgia is a football school. What is NC State?
While the Wolfpack have had some moments of fleeting success, this is the program synonymous with never giving up hope under the legendary Jim Valvano. Wade may have made a mess of it, but Corrigan is no chump. To be humiliated like this cannot be sitting well with the long-time NC State athletic director and former chairman of the College Football Playoff. White may exit stage left here.
To put this bluntly, if White were to be offered this job at NC State, he would leave Georgia in a heartbeat. NC State is a better job. Moreover, Dawg Nation is kind of starting to turn on him. Not to say that he is the college basketball equivalent of Scott Satterfield, but White knows how to leave when things get ... interesting. Right now, Schertz feels like the guy for NC State. Will he become that?
Look for NC State to conduct a thorough search, as the Wolfpack was unprepared for Wade to walk.
