One of the biggest things in the history of Georgia football recruiting happened on Monday. And no, it wasn't a dream even though it still feels like it.
Five-star Jared Curtis, who named Georgia and Oregon as his two finalists, shocked the college football world by committing to the Bulldogs over the Ducks. This move, which many didn't think was possible just a few months ago, shows why Kirby Smart and his staff are the best recruiters in the country.
Loyalty wins out
NIL has caused the recruiting landscpae to drastically change. Instead of relationships being the most important thing in a recruitment, most players only care about how much money they will be making.
That however was not the case with Curtis as both Georgia and Oregon reporetdely did not make the highest NIL bid. So money clearly didn't matter to Curtis as he focused more on his relationships, the programs recruiting him and loyalty, which he demonstrated more than any other recruit by committing to Georgia for a second time.
Jared Curtis chooses Georgia for a second time
Recruits hardly ever commit to a school a second time. Whenever a player decommits from a program, more often than not that school no longer stands a chance in their recruitment.
That however was not the case with Curtis, who decommitted from Georgia back in October only to pick the Bulldogs again on Monday. So Smart and his staff were able to do what most programs can't, which again speaks to how loyal Curtis was throughout his recruitment.
Oregon's NIL pitch isn't working anymore
What is going on at Oregon? They have been one of the hottest teams on the recruiting trail in the NIL era because of their deep pockets, but the past few weeks have not been good for them. They have had multiple decommitments along with various recruiting misses with Curtis being the biggest miss of all.
This could indicate that their NIL pitch is no longer working on recruits, which is a great sign for Georgia because they are battling the Ducks for many top recruits this cycle.
