Georgia reportedly sits in a good spot with the No. 1 recruit in the country.

The No. 1 recruit in the 2027 recruiting class is five-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton. The good news for Georgia is that Guyton is from the Peach State, so the Bulldogs certainly will be a major factor in Guyton's recruitment.

Guyton clearly still has a lot of time left in his recruitment, but he is already one of Georgia's most important targets in the 2027 class. Guyton recently provided a small update about his recruitment specifically about Georgia, and he confirmed that the Bulldogs are one of the top teams in his recruitment.

“Georgia is always going to be up there for me.”

Georgia in back and forth battle with unlikely program for Guyton

No one will be surprised to learn that Georgia is a top contender for Guyton. 247Sports even logged a prediction almost a year ago in favor of Georgia to win this battle. But Texas Tech has recently emerged as a contender for Guyton as well, so much so that Rivals predicted the Red Raiders to win this recruitment earlier this month.

Texas Tech may seem like a random program for Georgia to battle with for the No. 1 recruit in the country, but the Red Raiders have quickly become one of the biggest spenders in all of college football. Earlier this month Texas Tech won the recruitment for five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo after offering him an NIL deal just north of $5 million. So they likely are doing the same thing with Guyton.

Georgia certainly has a competitive offer on the table for Guyton as well, but it's unlikely that it matches Texas Tech's monster offer. So UGA may end up losing this battle if Guyton's decision comes down to the highest offer, but if NIL only plays a small role in his decision then Kirby Smart and Georgia should love their chances.
