Georgia hasn’t won a playoff game in three years since winning back-to-back national titles. That lack of success is causing everyone (Kirby Smart included) to become very frustrated, but they haven’t taken a step back from their high expectations yet.
Some fans and members of the media however believe it’s time for Georgia to readjust their expectations. Even Vegas thinks it might be time to take a step back as well.
But Smart recently spoke about how he doesn’t care about the external noise at all, and it’s clear that he wants his team and fanbase to think this way as well.
"Yeah, I don't. I don't listen to outside noise. I don't have time,” Smart said via 247sports.com. “I'm trying to figure out, you know, who's gonna be the this guy, that guy, what position they're gonna play, who we're gonna recruit, who we're gonna sign, not to mention making a decision on practice habits and what we're doing every day. I don't I don't pay one bit of attention to the outside noise. I don't have time to."
Kirby Smart’s internal focus is the best mindset possible
Fans love to pay attention to what the rest of the world thinks about their team. External validation is arguably the biggest thing that fans care the most about when it comes to watching sports, and when their team is good they love to brag about it to rival fanbases.
But that’s not what Smart cares about. He isn’t worried about anything anyone else says outside of Georgia’s football building. He is too focused on preparing his team for the season ahead to care what anyone else has to say about his team.
This mindset is what has led to all of Georgia’s success under Smart, and hopefully this mindset will be what takes Georgia back to the top of the college football world.
