Everyone knows by now that former Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck rocked the college football world by transferring to Miami (FL). And even though this story has dominated the college football news cycle, there hasn’t been a lot of specific details shared about what led to Beck making this decision.
However, that all changed on Wednesday when On3 dropped some major news surrounding which teams were interested in Beck when he entered the transfer portal.
Georgia wanted to bring Carson Beck back
Beck initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft after suffering his injury in the SEC Championship game. Nobody from Georgia was upset when this happened, in fact, everyone was very excited for him and wished him nothing but the best. Then Beck decided to enter the transfer portal which caused the whirlwind of events that have taken place over the last week.
Beck ultimately chose Miami, but everyone was wondering how he landed on the Hurricanes. Were other teams interested as well? Did Georgia want to bring him back? Nobody knew the answers to these questions until On3 shared that Georgia did in fact want Beck to return to Athens once he entered the transfer portal.
This is a little surprising because the fact Beck entered the portal in the first place was kind of a slap in the face to Georgia. Everyone assumed he’d come back to Georgia if he returned to college, so entering the portal made it pretty clear he had no interest in Georgia. But Kirby Smart apparently made somewhat of an effort to convince him to return to Georgia, but those efforts came up short.
Even though UGA will be without Beck next season, the outlook for the program looks just fine. Gunner Stockton or Ryan Puglisi will likely take over as the full time starter next fall, and both players would be great options for Georgia. Maybe the Bulldogs outlook would be slightly better if Beck did return to Georgia, but after everything that’s happened in the last week likely no Georgia fan is upset to see Beck go.
