Kirby Smart gained a top-tier linebacker recruit last night after 4-star prospect Nick Abrams announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs. Abrams made his commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube page surrounded by his friends and family and chose the Bulldogs over Michigan, Oregon, and Alabama.
When making his choice, Abrams shared a bit about why he chose the Bulldogs and some of the words that Smart shared with him, and it was actually part of the reason he chose Georgia over the other schools.
"Coach Smart let it be known that it's hard work," Abrams said. "One of our first conversations was about how high a standard he holds you, but I wouldn't want it any other way."
This lines up perfectly with a comment Smart had during an interview at SEC Media Days. During that interview, Smart said that if a player doesn't love the game or doesn't want to be coached hard, then Georgia isn't the place for them.
It seems pretty clear that that isn't the case for Abrams. The young linebacker out of Maryland seems ready for whatever Smart is going to throw his way, which is exactly the kind of player any football program would want.

Nick Abrams' commitment came at the perfect time for Georgia
Nick Abrams made his commitment to Georgia just one day after the Bulldogs took a couple of hits in the recruiting game, losing 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson to Texas, and then 4-star defensive lineman James Johnson flipped his commitment to the Longhorns as well. Abrams came in and helped make what would have been an even worse situation better.
Smart knows that he can't win every recruiting battle, but to be able to land a top-tier linebacker just a day after losing one shows that Smart still is an elite recruiter. It also seems like he is poised and ready to do some damage at Georgia, which is exactly what Smart asks from any of his players.
