On the first night of the NFL Draft, a division rival of the Atlanta Falcons took a Georgia Bulldog. The Panthers selected Monroe Freeling with the 19th overall pick which means Georgia fans will have to start cheering against a former Bulldog.
Christen Miller then found himself drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the second round. Now a second Bulldog is headed to New Orleans as Oscar Delp went 74th overall in the draft.
A player that has been called a "Brock Bowers Clone" by many could end up being the biggest splash for the Saints this year.
New Orleans got a steal in Oscar Delp
The last time the Saints had a truly great tight end was Jimmy Graham. While Graham was more of a pure receiving tight end, Delp provides a level of flexibility and balance they have not had at that position in a long time. Now, the Saints are able to continue to build around Tyler Shough and give him some reliable weapons.
A growing trend in Georgia prospects in this draft, Delp falls into line with the con that he has to split playing time in Athens with so many players. However, the times that he did play he got to show off his versatility.
He learned under the best tight end arguably in college football history, and now he has the chance to be the sole guy in a offense that draws comparisons to Georgia's in the Saints.
It is a pleasant surprise to see Delp go in the third round after speculation that he could fall to the fourth or fifth round. While there are definitely concerns, he is a solid pick for what the Saints need in their offense right now.
First it was the Philadelphia Eagles who jumped on the Georgia football bandwagon. Now with back to back Bulldogs taken by the Saints, are they the next organization to realize what Georgia produces?
