There may be a lot of reasons why former Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck decided to transfer to Miami (FL) for one final season in college. Wanting a change in scenery, moving to where his girlfriend goes to school or maybe even wanting to face a new challenge are a few reasons why he may have moved on to Miami.

But there is no denying that NIL money being offered from the Hurricanes played a big role.

Immediately after Beck made his announcement, multiple reports came out surrounding the amount of money he will be making next season. Itโ€™s impossible to ever get an exact amount, but most reports had him coming in around the $3-4 million mark. This range, if accurate, would make him one of the highest paid college football players of all time on an annual basis.

And another report from On3 backs up this rumor that Beck was the highest paid player in the portal this offseason.

Could Georgia have matched Miamiโ€™s offer?

Georgia most certainly could have matched this offer and paid Beck this amount to keep him in Athens. However, itโ€™s unclear if they ever wanted to bring him back in the first placed.

Georgia seemed more than ready to move on from Beck after he initially shared that he was declaring for the NFL Draft. But when Beck changed his mind, he gave no teams a chance to recruit him in the portal because he committed to Miami within 24 hours of entering the portal. So was Georgia even given a chance to try and keep him in Athens? It seems unlikely that they were.

Regardless, Georgia now gets to save all this money and spend it on other players and recruits, which they may have already done because they have a solid batch of transfers coming in. So the world may never know exactly how much Miami paid Beck, but both programs seem just fine with how things played out.
