The spring transfer portal window is officially opening, which means the craziest time in college football is taking center stage. Georgia football made a lot of headlines earlier this offseason in the transfer portal, with Carson Beck’s departure grabbing the most attention. But the Bulldogs were also active themselves and made a few major splashes by adding some elite players out of the portal as well.

So it shouldn’t be surprising if Kirby Smart and his staff continue to pursue more targets this spring, and one player they should consider is potentially the best running back to enter the portal to this point.

Cal transfer RB Jaydn Ott

On Monday, Cal running back Jaydn Ott decided to enter the transfer portal. This grabbed the attention of the entire college football world as Ott is one of the top returning running backs in the country.

This past season, Ott appeared in 10 games and recorded 116 carries for 385 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 24 receptions for 222 yards and one more touchdown as well.

These stats don’t jump out as overly impressive, but Ott did have big seasons both in 2022 and 2023 as he tallied 897 and 1,305 yards, respectively.

So it’s clear to see that Ott would be a big addition to whichever program he transfers to, but it’s important to note how he would fit at Georgia. Nate Frazier is the current No. 1 running back in Athens, and that won’t change no matter who UGA brings in. But the rest of the depth chart at running back is still very much up in the air, so Ott could immediately come in and be an amazing backup to Frazier.

No word has come out yet regarding which teams have shown interest in Ott, but it might not be the worst idea in the world for Smart and his staff to reach out and see if he is interested in Georgia.
