The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and now is the time when college football players from around the country are deciding if they are ready to declare for the NFL Draft or if they need to return to college football for another season. That decision is a lot more difficult now than it used to be because the best players in college football can make more money in college than they would in the NFL.
But still, these players have spent their entire lives dreaming about making it to the NFL, so that option will always be hard to pass up. But that is exactly what former Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck chose to do when withdrew his name from the NFL Draft and transferred to Miami (FL).
This decision shocked everyone, and many questioned if this was the right choice or not. However, NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. recently spoke about Beck's decision and he believes it was the right choice.
"I couldn't be happier," Kiper said via sportingnews.com. "The decisions that players make sometimes will leave you scratching their head, I mean that's why I'm losing my hair...I'm ripping my hair out with decisions that these guys make. When you have time to play college football, I'm begging you, take it."
"It doesn't matter where you go, it's how well-prepared you are for what's going to be asked for you to do in the National Football League."
Was Carson Beck ready for the NFL?
Knowing if a player is ready for the NFL or not is extremely difficult. Some players seem more than ready to make the leap to the NFL, but every year we see players who looked ready who end up flopping in the league. So it really is impossible to know who will make it in the NFL and who won't.
But according to Kiper, Beck was not ready for the NFL. Kiper did not share why he specifically feels that way, but his comments make it very clear that Beck has a lot to work on still before he's ready for the NFL. And it's hard to argue against that as Beck was noticeably worse this season compared to 2023.
It will be interesting to see if Beck is more ready for the NFL or not after his one season with Miami, but according to one of the most respected NFL Draft experts, Beck made the right decision to return to college.
