It’s always an honor to be the first Georgia football star drafted at the NFL Draft each year. That may not seem like a big deal, but considering how many Bulldogs get drafted every year it really is a nice accomplishment.
Defensive lineman Mykel Williams was the first Bulldog drafted at the 2025 NFL Draft after being selected 11th overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Like every other rookie, Williams is officially with his new team and going through training camp as he prepares for his first season in the NFL. However, even after an extremely successful career at Georgia there is still plenty for him to learn. Thankfully he has one of the NFL’s top defenders in Nick Bosa to help him along the way.
And recent comments from Bosa indicate that Williams is off to a solid start in his NFL career.
“A lot of eagerness to learn, more so than I have seen probably from a young guy,” Bosa said via si.com. “[Williams] just wants to learn as much as he can, and I’m excited to give all the knowledge I can to him. I think he’s got a ton of talent, so the sky’s the limit.”
Bosa however didn’t stop there as he continued to discuss how he’s helping Williams acclimate to the NFL by teaching him what he wish he learned as a rookie.
“I definitely don’t force anything,” Bosa continued. “I just try to give him enough. If I put myself in his shoes as a rookie, what would have helped me, what would have been too much, what I would have tried to avoid. So, just get him focused on the right things. Things that will make him effective right away and things that I wish that I knew as a rookie.”
Mykel Williams impact could be huge for the 49ers
The jump from high school to college is a tough transition for many college football players, but that was not the case with Williams. He made an immediate impact his freshman season with Georgia by recording 28 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
His production didn’t slow down there as he racked up 4.5 sacks in 2023 before reaching five sacks this past season.
With Bosa by his side now, there’s a chance Williams finds immediate success in the NFL just like he did in college. And considering how historic of an organization San Francisco is, they would love nothing more than for Williams to lead the team to a championship just like he did as a freshman at Georgia.
