Georgia football quarterback Gunner Stockton may be the most doubted QB in all of college football entering the 2025 season. Stockton was an elite recruit out of high school, but all it took was one somewhat below average performance in the only start of his career last season for college football fans and the media to count him out.
There is at least one person out there though who still believes in Stockton, and that is none other than former Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
“I've known Gunner Stockton since he was eight years old and we recruited him (to Alabama)...”
Lotta y’all talking all this acting like Alabama didn’t want Gunner Stockton

Nick Saban still believes in Gunner Stockton
It's worth mentioning that Saban didn't go above and beyond and say how confident he is in Stockton entering the season, but he did not do what the rest of the media has done all offseason. The rest of the media has counted Stockton out because of his performance against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff last season, which all things considered wasn't that bad.
During that game, Stockton completed 20 of 32 passes for 234 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. Georgia lost the game 23-10 so that is likely why everyone isn't giving Stockton his flowers, but overall he played a pretty strong game considering it was the first start of his career.
But even though Saban didn't sing Stockton's praises too much, he did say that they recruited Stockton to Alabama out of high school. Saban apparently had Stockton on his radar even longer than that because he knew of Stockton since he was eight years old.
Saban is one of the greatest minds in college football history, so if he isn't counting Stockton out yet then nobody should. So while the college football media will likely be surprised if Stockton has a great season this year, in reality they shouldn't because Saban is warning everyone that Stockton has a chance to be legit this season.
