Georgia originally opened as a 14-point favorite over Oklahoma for this weekend's game. The spread has stayed put all week, but 24 hours before kickoff the line moved for the first time as Georgia is now favored by 13.5 points.
These spreads are essentially the same, so there isn't anything to read into with this small adjustment. Overall though Vegas is predicting a close game which will be something new for Georgia this season.
Vegas predicts a battle Georgia hasn't experienced yet this season
Georgia is yet to be challenged this season and they've already played 25 percent of their schedule. That has more to do with the competition they've played so far this year, but beginning this week things will get more difficult.
Georgia is still favored by about two touchdowns which seems like a comfortable win, but it's far different from the blowout wins they've had every game up to this point. Georgia and Oklahoma could battle in a close game all night only for UGA to pull away with a late score to win by 14. Sure on paper that win would look good, but it wouldn't feel that comfortable.
Georgia hasn't felt uncomfortable in a game yet this season. There's a chance they dominate Oklahoma who has been struggling the last two weeks, but the most likely scenario is that they find themselves in a close game for most of the night which would be something new for them this season.
Georgia has the coaching and leadership to be able to handle being pushed, but you never truly know how a team will react to adversity until they face it. Vegas believes Oklahoma will give them their first does of adversity this weekend, but Georgia should welcome it so they can see where they truly stand against another good team.
A blowout win would actually mean something this week
So far this season Georgia has won every game in blowout fashion. Week one they beat Tennessee State by 60, week two they took down Western Kentucky by 50, and last week in their SEC opener they beat Arkansas by 28. Georgia deserves credit for handling their business like they were supposed to, but they shouldn't celebrate too much because of the level of competition they faced.
Vegas believes Georgia will beat Oklahoma comfortably this weekend, but they are not predicting a blowout. If Georgia were to blow Oklahoma out it would be far more meaningful than their first three blowout wins. The only thing that actually matters is if Georgia beats Oklahoma, but if they can win by as many points as they just beat Arkansas then that would show how good of a team they can be this season.
The chances of that happening are slim, but Oklahoma has only scored 24 points in their last two games combined. Georgia on the other hand has the No. 1 scoring offense in the country, so if everything comes together just right there is a chance they could blow Oklahoma out, but no one should be counting on that and that is okay.
Kickoff between Oklahoma and Georgia is scheduled for 3:30 pm EST on Saturday, Sept. 26.
