Carson Beck proved Thursday night that he doesn't need Georgia. The Bulldogs found a lot of success during the two seasons he was a starter in Athens, but the second Beck left for Miami he immediately clinched a trip to the National Championship game after beating Ole Miss in the semifinals Thursday night.
Beck making it to the National Championship game may be Georgia's worst nightmare, but there is one reason why his victory over Ole Miss is a good thing for them.
Carson Beck, Miami did Georgia a huge favor Thursday night
Georgia is the last team to win a National Championship in the SEC. The Bulldogs won back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022, and ever since then no SEC team has been able to win it all.
Ole Miss was the last SEC team standing in the playoff this year after they beat Georgia in the quarterfinals last week, and they looked like they had a chance to win a championship this season. But Beck and Miami ended their hopes which guarantees Georgia will remain the last SEC team to win a national title.
While the only thing Georgia should care about is winning another championship for themselves, it is nice that they will remain the last SEC team to hoist the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy. This allows Georgia to remain at the top of the SEC after winning back-to-back SEC titles the last two years. If Ole Miss had won it all this season then they would have a better argument than Georgia at that tile, but that thankfully is not the case.
Now the hope is that either Indiana or Oregon will beat Miami in the championship game because the last thing anyone wants is for Beck to win a national title. But the Hurricanes did do Georgia a big favor Thursday night and that is something UGA should be very thankful for.
