Georgia's loss to Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl is a tough pill to swallow. This loss will haunt Georgia for many years to come, but what if they should've never been playing Ole Miss in the first place?

The Bulldogs were the 3-seed in the College Football Playoff this season, but the fact that they weren't the 2-seed is something that isn't being talked about enough. And if they were the 2-seed then who knows how the playoff would've played out.

CFP committee's big mistake cost Georgia a trip to the semifinals

Georgia entered conference championship weeked as the No. 3 team in the CFP committee's rankings. The Bulldogs then went and destroyed Alabama 28-7 in the SEC Championship game. Many believed this was enough to move Georgia up to No. 2 after Ohio State's loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship game, but that somehow was not the case.

It's impossible to predict what would've happened if Georgia was given the 2-seed they deserved. Georgia however would've avoided playing Ole Miss in the quarterfinals and instead would've played 10-seed Miami. Miami did beat Ohio State in their quarterfinal matchup so it isn't a guarantee that Georgia would've won that game, but anything is possible.

This however isn't an excuse. Did Georgia deserve the 2-seed and a different path in the playoff? Absolutely they did, but that committee disagreed and unfortunately their opinion is the only one that matters. And even if Georgia did get the 2-seed they would've had to play Ole Miss in the semifinals if both teams advanced.

Georgia deserves a vast majority of the blame for this loss. However, it's impossible to ignore the blunder the committee made and not recognize the impact that it could've had on the playoff for multiple teams this season.
