Ohio State receives special treatment compared to Georgia

The College Football Playoff Committee has some explaining to do.

Three weeks ago Georgia football received some of the worst treatment from the College Football Playoff committee since the CFP began 10 years ago. The Bulldogs suffered their second loss of the season to a top 15 Ole Miss team on the road, which somehow moved Georgia down nine spots from No. 3 to No. 12 in the committee's rankings.

While this decision made absolutely no sense at the time, the one thing the committee could have done is treat other teams similarly when they have an equal or worse loss than Georgia's loss to Ole Miss. If the committee handled other teams the same way, then Georgia would have no reason to be upset with the committee anymore.

But the committee's rankings that were released on Tuesday showed that one team in particular is getting preferential treatment compared to Georgia.

Ohio State gets special treatment compared to Georgia

Ohio State suffered a terrible 13-10 loss at home to a 6-win Michigan team this past weekend. Any college football fan would immediately realize that this loss is far worse than Kirby Smart and Georgia's loss to a top 15 Ole Miss team on the road. So surely the Buckeyes fell at least nine spots like the Bulldogs did a few weeks ago right?

Wrong.

Ohio State only fell four spots, from No. 2 to No. 6 in this week's rankings. It's worth noting that this was Ohio State's second loss of the season as well, just like UGA three weeks ago.

Ohio State also has a nearly identical resume now compared to Georgias back then as well. Georgia's two best wins at the time were to Clemson and Texas while Ohio State beat Penn State and Indiana. Those wins are comparable, but the slight edge has to be given to Georgia. The teams losses however is where these teams get separated.

Ohio State has a good loss to No. 1 Oregon on the road, but their second loss is their horrific loss to a 6-win Michigan team at home from this past weekend. Georgia's two losses on the other hand were to top 15 teams and on the road.

So the resume comparison makes it pretty clear who the better team is, so why did Ohio State get better treatment and only drop four spots instead of nine like Georgia? Likely the CFP committee couldn't even answer that question.
