Ole Miss has had to move to their backup quarterback for much of this season as starter Austin Simmons has been out for four games with an ankle injury. Normally opposing fans would assume that would make beating the Rebels much easier, but that has not been the case up to this point.
Ole Miss comes to Athens this weekend 6-0 and the No. 5 team in the country. They have been able to accomplish this perfect start even though they have had to roll with backup Trinidad Chambliss for four games now. Chambliss has proven over the past four games that he is a legit quarterback and someone who can't be overlooked, but he has yet to play in a road game this season as the Rebels starter.
That will change this weekend when he gets the start at Georgia, and the fact that this will be his first time starting on the road in the SEC could be a good sign for the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss will experience his first road start at Georgia
Chambliss is a very experienced quarterback who made the move to Ole Miss this offseason from division two Ferris State. The fact that he came from a division two school made a lot of people overlook him, but he has quickly proven why he is one of the top QBs in the SEC.
So far this season Chambliss has completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,286 yards, seven touchdowns and on interception. He also has been an effective runner as he has racked up 281 rushing yards and three more touchdowns. While these stats are impressive, they all came at home. That's right, the past four games when Chambliss has been the Rebels quarterback he has been able to benefit from playing at home.
So while he did play on the road at Ferris State, this will be his first taste of a true road environment. And environments don't get more difficult than Sanford Stadium, especially when Kirby Smart is pleading for the fans to be loud all game long.
Chambliss is a great player, but can he remain great on the road as well? Georgia will be able to put that to the test this weekend when the Bulldogs and Rebels kickoff at 3:30 pm EST on Saturday, Oct. 18.
