An unfortunate trend has been sweeping through Georgia's program on the recruiting trail. The Bulldogs go after a lot of the top recruits in the country, so they are bound to miss on a lot of these players. But they have missing on a lot of the top players from the state of Georgia recently which is never a good thing to see.

The most recent example came on Monday night when five-star DJ Jacobs announced his commitment to Ohio State over the Bulldogs and a few other programs.

Jacobs' commitment came out of nowhere as no one was expecting him to announce his school of choice until this past weekend. Georgia had some hope that they could come out on top since they are the in-state school, but that unfortunately did not happen. And the reason Georgia reportedly missed is a bit concerning.

On3 insider gives concerning reason for Georgia's latest recruiting failure

On3 insider Steve Wiltfong broke down Jacobs' recruitment and what led to his decision, and his comments about Georgia are very frightening.

"Georgia is not a big threat unless there is a philosophy change towards high school recruiting."

Wiltfong essentially is saying that Georgia is not competitve enough in NIL with high school recruits, and that is what keeps costing them. This lack of commitment to NIL for high school recruits not only cost them Jacobs' commitment, but it also hurt them five-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton in the 2026 class. These two players are very significant because they are both the No. 1 player from the Peach State in their recruiting class, so missing out on the best player from Georgia in back-to-back classes is a cause for concern.

Unfortunately Georgia's NIL philsophy with high school recruits isn't likely to change. Kirby Smart has made it clear that he doesn't believe in overpaying for an unproven high school recruit, even if they are ranked very high. He would rather spend NIL money on transfers or keeping their current roster in tact.

It will be interesting to see if Smart and his staff make any adjustments to their recruiting tactics, but for now results like this should be expected to occur more often going forward.
