The Los Angeles Rams quarterback room is by far the most intriguing for Georgia football fans to follow in the NFL. It features former Bulldog Matthew Stafford who won his one and only Super Bowl with the team not long ago, but it also features Stetson Bennett who has been backing Stafford up since his arrival in 2023.

Both Stafford and Bennett have two years left on their contract, so that means Bennett is likely to continue to be Stafford's backup until his contract expires. But Stafford has been dealing with an injury that has given Bennett ample opportunities this offseason to prove himself, and it sounds like Stafford's injury could end up causing him to miss some time in the regular season as well.

Matthew Stafford's injury presents new opportunity for Stetson Bennett

Stafford has reportedly been dealing with an aggravated disk that has been causing a lot of pain and soreness in his back. Back injuries are one of the most challenging things to come back from because any amount of pain and soreness can prevent a quarterback from being able to play at a high enough level to succeed in the NFL.

After multiple weeks of speculation, it is still unclear if Stafford will be healthy in time for their week one game against the Houston Texans on Sep. 7, but if he isn't healthy then Bennett may finally get his first real chance in a regular season game.

Bennett has shown over the past few weeks that he is more than ready for his first opportunity to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Saturday night Bennett shined brighter than he ever has in the NFL after leading the Rams to a one point victory over the Chargers. Bennett threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in this game and made countless plays that were very reminicent of his time at Georgia.

Even though Georgia fans want Bennett to get his chance at glory in the NFL, nobody wants to see Stafford injured either. But if Stafford is unable to go for their week one game, then Bennett will be ready to step in if his number is called.
