As Georgia was preparing for the 2025 regular season, there was one team everyone thought would be their most difficult opponent this year. That team is the Texas Longhorns who was the preseason No. 1 team in the country.

Georgia did beat Texas twice last season, but the Longhorns were the team entering the season with all of the hype this year. They were the favorites to win the SEC, the frontrunner to win the College Football Playoff, and quarterback Arch Manning was the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

But after just six weeks of the college football season, Texas is no longer the most difficult team on Georgia’s schedule. In fact, they may just be one of the easiest.

The Georgia football team should feel better about one of its toughest games

Texas currently sits at just 3-2 this season after a stunning 29-21 loss to Florida last week. In case anyone forgot, the Gators were 1-3 entering this game and looked like they could be the worst team in the SEC. But all it took was one game to show that maybe Florida isn’t that bad and it’s actually Texas who isn’t very good.

A big reason for Texas’s struggles this season is the inconsistent play from Manning. Many believed he would carry the Longhorns this season, but that hasn’t even been close to accurate. Last weekend Manning completed 16 of 29 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns. He did however throw two costly interceptions that really hurt the Longhorns.

The Texas defense also had a lot of issues against Florida as well. Gators quarterback DJ Lagway had really been struggling all season long, but he had an extremely efficient night against a Texas defense that’s supposed to be really good.

Georgia doesn’t face Texas until Nov. 15 in Athens, so there is still plenty of time for the Longhorns to improve before UGA goes for three straight victories since they joined the SEC. But as it stands today, it’s clear that Texas is not as challenging of an opponent as anyone originally thought.
