The Georgia Bulldogs have won their first two games of the season by an average of 55 points. In games that are this lopsided several freshmen were able to see the field and gain valuable experience. However, once SEC play begins, those opportunities can drop dramatically.
The margin of victory will become much closer and the competition will stiffen. Though many will see less opportunities, true freshman receiver Craig Dandridge may be in position to continue to shine throughout the season.
Craig Dandridge could have have major role throughout SEC play
One major question looming for the Bulldogs to start the season was who would fill the shoes of the six leading receivers that left a season ago. So far Dandridge, who is a true freshman, has stepped up in a major way already.
The former four-star recruit is second on the team in receiving yards with 92 on four catches. While he still has yet to get into the end zone, he has gotten open several times downfield for Gunner Stockton to help spark explosive plays.
Though he does not have a large frame at 6"1', he has been a sure catcher and done a great job at creating separation. Talyn Taylor and Sacovie White-Helton have also been great targets for Stockton, but they have gotten the bulk of their plays on short passes or wide receiver screens. Taylor will still likely get several targets on go routes and deep shots, but Dandridge could be that sneaky target downfield that will get overlooked at WR3.
Georgia did not let up on Western Kentucky when Stockton was in with the star QB having 16 passing attempts despite playing less than half the game. The Bulldogs likely won't let up when it comes to SEC play either as they travel to Arkansas this coming Saturday. Stockton has also only carried the ball once in two games so far, a big difference from the 15 carries he had in the first two games last season. It is apparent with that statistic that Mike Bobo is fully entrusting Stockton's arm in the offense as a seasoned starter this year, and with that comes many more passing attempts.
Stockton likes to spread the ball, and he has plenty of weapons to do that with. Dandridge could be a freshman that sees more playing time than most others. He has already proven through two games that he deserves that level of recognition and if he keeps making big plays out of the opportunities given to him then his playing time will keep going up.
