Georgia moved to 2-0 on the season after a 70-20 drubbing of Western Kentucky on Saturday. Western Kentucky however is not even close to being on the same level as Georgia, so this blowout win should be taken with a grain of salt.
Even if that is the case there were a handful of players who shined along with two players who struggled on Saturday against Western Kentucky.
4 Georgia winners from the Week 2 blowout of Western Kentucky
QB Gunner Stockton
For the second week in a row Gunner Stockton did what he was supposed to do. He completed 13 of 16 passes for 234 yards and a whopping five touchdowns before he was benched for the rest of the game midway through the second quarter to preserve his health.
Like with every player it is tough to read too much into their performance against a team like Western Kentucky, but Stockton handled his business exactly how a player of his caliber is supposed to against lesser competition and he deserves credit for that.
DB Tryriq Green
True freshman Tyriq Green had his coming out party against Western Kentucky as he scored not one but two touchdowns. It isn't often that a defender scores twice in the same game, but Green was able pull it off late in their matchup against Western Kentucky.
He opened up his scoring affair by recovering a fumble in the back of the end zone after a Georgia defender fumbled after an interception. Then just a few moments later Green ran a kickoff back 91 yards for a touchdown.
It's unclear how much Green will play throughout the rest of the season since SEC play is beginning, but he may have cemented himself as one of Georgia's top returners for this season. Regardless, the future is bright for Green because he showed he has the drive Kirby Smart is looking for from all of his players.
QB Ryan Puglisi
Throughout the offseason and into the first two weeks of the season it wasn't clear who Georgia's backup quarterback was. Ryan Puglisi likely ended that debate on Saturday.
Fellow backup Ryan Montgomery struggled mightily (more to come), but Puglisi shined as he showed off his arm strength and a run game fans probably had no clue he had when he torched Western Kentucky for a 70-yard touchdown run.
Georgia is hoping they won't need to rely on Puglisi at any point this season, but he likely locked up the No. 2 spot on the depth chart for the season and looks like the most likely player to win the starting quarterback job for Georgia next season.
WR Craig Dandridge
Craig Dandridge was one of the true freshman who made a lot of noise throughout fall camp. Fans finally got to see why on Saturday as he was second on the team with 56 receiving yards after tallying two receptions.
Georgia hasn't had many wide receivers truly emerge yet this season, so there is a path for Dandridge to earn some playing time this year. He'll likely get a chance to play next week at Arkansas, and if he can play well again then he could keep earning more playing time as the season progresses.
The losers from Georgia's win over Western Kentucky
QB Ryan Montogmery
Part of the reason Ryan Puglisi seemingly wrapped up the backup QB duties after Saturday is because of how poorly Ryan Montgomery played. He pushed Puglisi for the backup job all offseason, but after this week it seems clear that he will be No. 3 on the depth chart.
Montgomery only completed one of his four passes for six yards on Saturday. He also didn't have a highlight play like Puglisi did when he scored his touchdown and he just didn't look comfortable at all when he was in the game.
That is concerning considering the level of competition he faced on Saturday, so it's clear that he has a lot of work to do before Georgia can ever trust him to take the field during a meaningful moment of a game.
TE Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie is off to a slow start this year. He was expected to be Georgia's top tight end this season but so far he only has one catch for four yards all season which he recorded against Western Kentucky on Saturday.
His lack of production up to this point might have more to do with his lack of playing time because of Kirby Smart's quick trigger to rest his starters, but one catch through the first two games of the season is a bit troubling. With SEC play beginning next week he should get more playing time now, so hopefully Luckie will finally hit his stride.
What's next for Georgia
Up next for Georgia is their first SEC game of the season. They will also hit the road for the first time this year as well as the travel to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12:00 pm EST.
Arkansas will be their most difficult test so far this season, so after next week fans should start getting a better idea of just how good this Georgia team is and what their true ceiling is.
