Georgia football lost one of their best coaches to Texas on Thursday. Will Muschamp has coached in various roles at Georgia since 2021, but on Thursday the Texas Longhorns announced that they have hired him as their new Defensive Coordinator.
Muschamp has been in an off the field analyst role for the past two seasons, so this will be a pretty easy position for Smart to fill. But it will be nearly impossible to find someone more qualified than him as he has head coaching experience as well as two years of experience as Georgia's Defensive Coordinator.
There is one positive however that Georgia will immediately realize after this news as the Bulldogs will have $600,000 freed up that they can use to hire his replacement.

Mark Stoops… welcome to Athens, Ga.
Georgia will make out well financially after Will Muschamp's departure
According to Brooks Austin, Georgia was paying Muschamp $600,000 per year. That obviously is a large some of money, but it doesn't even compare to the sum that Texas is giving him to become their Defensive Coordinator.
Georgia now has an opening on their coaching staff and a lot of extra money available that they can use to fill it. Having Muschamp in that role as a former head coach seemed to work extremely well for Georgia, so it may not be a bad idea to use the same strategy and hire a former head coach again.
Kirby Smart could look no further than Kentucky to find Muschamp's replacement as Mark Stoops was just fired after being the head coach of the Wildcats since 2013. Stoops didn't find enough success at Kentucky for other schools to really want to hire him as their head coach, so becoming an analyst for Georgia could be a great move to get back on his feet.
Regardless of if Georgia targets Stoops or not, they will be able to get a big name to fill the void that Muschamp left. And while it will be impossible to find a better coach than him, the Bulldogs will benefit from the large sum of money freed up to attract a new coach.
