Stetson Bennett is still in the midst of a battle with rookie quarterback Ty Simpson to be the Rams backup QB this season. He however may have shown he deserve to be traded this year and given a chance to be a starter.
Bennett played in the Rams first two preseason games this year, but he only got significant playing time in their second game. During that game his legs shined as he scored two touchdowns on the ground, but there was one throw he made that showed just how good his arm is.

Stetson Bennet could be a prime trade target
Bennett will not be the starter for the Rams this season. That spot is held down by Matthew Stafford who just won the MVP Award this past season, so unless Stafford gets hurt Bennett won't start a game for the Rams this season. That also assumes he wins the backup job over Simpson which hasn't occurred yet. Bennett however could be a prime target for NFL teams to trade for if they think they need a new quarterback this season.
This throw from Bennett is an NFL level throw. He threw it in the perfect spot that only his receiver could catch it, just barely missing the arms of the defender.
Sure one throw doesn't prove Bennett would be a great starting quarterback in the NFL, but this throw combined with the rest of his game shows he may deserve a chance. Bennett was one of the best players during the entire preseason last year, and this season he has shined when he's been given a chance to play.
The Rams have no intentions on playing him during the regular season this year. Rookie quarterback Ty Simpson could probably be good enough for the Rams too if Stafford were to get hurt, so it might be time to cut ties with Bennett and give him a chance to be a starter elsewhere in the NFL.
LA Rams have held Stetson Bennett hostage for long enough
The Rams drafted Bennett three years ago which makes this his fourth and final season on his rookie contract with them. So far he has always been the third string QB in LA, but this year could get a little better if he wins the backup job. Either way he won't be their starter, and considering they drafted Ty Simpson with a first round pick this past draft the Rams will probably opt to stick with Simpson over Bennett in the long run.
So the Rams could trade Bennett this year to get some value for him instead of letting him walk for free next offseason.
NFL teams who think they can contend for a Super Bowl this year probably won't be interested in Bennett, but rebuilding teams could be. Bennett is a cheap option who only has the one year left on his contract, so if he didn't work out this season they could pivot and find a new quarterback for the following season.
There isn't much of a downside for these rebuilding teams to trade for Bennett if they end up needing a new quarterback, and maybe Bennett will shine and turn into their long-term option at quarterback. All of this depends on the Rams being willing to trade him, but so far they have shown no signs of being willing to do that.
Trading Bennett could be in the Rams' best interest though, and it could help his career more than just sitting in LA for another year.
