Georgia football has their SEC Championship showdown with Alabama quickly approaching, and while that game is the most important of the season it's impossible to not look ahead to the College Football Playoff as well.

Georgia will likely climb to No. 3 in the updated CFP rankings this week, but their resume is strong enough that they will still make the playoff even if they lose to Alabama. So instead of worrying about if they will make the playoff or not, Georgia fans can look at who their potential opponents could be.

Georgia should hope they avoid playing Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff

There are a lot of potential matchups that Georgia should be hoping they get in the playoff. If the Bulldogs do happen to lose to Alabama, there is a good chance they could play a Group of Five team at home in the first round of the playoff. No one should say that any playoff game is an automatic win, but that would be as close to it as possible.

While there are plenty of teams Georgia would matchup well with, there are some teams they should pray they avoid. And Oklahoma arguably is the one team they should want to avoid the most.

The Sooners just wrapped up their season with a win over LSU that took them to 10-2. Considering Oklahoma was No. 8 in last week's CFP rankings, they should have nothing to worry about when it comes to making the playoff.

One reason Georgia should hope to avoid Oklahoma is because of all the great wins they have this season. The Sooners took down a solid Michigan team earlier this season and also have wins over Tennessee and Alabama on the road. On top of that, the Sooners defense has been lights out in recent weeks. And considering Georgia's offense just struggled against Georgia Tech on Friday, the Sooners defense could be a serious problem for them.

It's impossible to predict what Georgia's playoff path will look like, but Oklahoma is a team that Georgia should hope they don't get paired with this year.
