January was a big month of recruiting for Georgia. They had countless recruts visit campus throughout the month with one of their biggest recruiting events of the offseason taking place at the end of the month.
While many elite recruits visited Athens, not many have decided that Georgia is the right place for them. It is still extremely early in their recruiting process, so the fact that only one recruit has committed to Georgia so far isn't that big of a deal.
But local quarterback Derrick Baker visited Georgia and immeidately knew UGA wasn't the right place for him after as he instead chose to commit to SEC rival Tennessee.

Georgia QB target ditches Bulldogs in favor of Tennessee
Baker is a three-star quarterback from Alpharetta, GA. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Baker is the No. 539 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 37 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class and the No. 62 player from the state of Georgia.
It's clear that Baker isn't the highest rated recruit in the country. He also wasn't Georgia's top target at quarterback either. But there's something that just doesn't feel right when a player that Georgia shows even a little interest in chooses a conference rival over them. That feeling is multiplied when said recruit is from the state of Georgia.
But to take it even further, Baker just visited Georgia and still chose to commit to Tennessee not long after.
The bad news for Baker is that he will have to play Georgia a few times throughout his career with the Volunteers. And based on recent history those battles won't go too well for him.
But at the end of the day Tennessee earned a commitment from one of Georgia's targets which is never a good thing to see.
