Georgia Bulldogs news: Day 1 NFL Scouting Combine recap, UGA world record denied, more
By Josh Yourish
The NFL Scouting Combine is underway in Indianapolis and on Day 1 of the workouts, the defensive lineman, edge rushers, and linebackers got to test in everything from the 40-yard dash to the bench press, to some drill where they run around two big hula hoops grabbing towels.
Georgia sent 11 players to Indianapolis, but only one was in action on Thursday. Defensive lineman Zion Logue, who only posted nine solo tackles and half a sack in 2023, tested and may have improved his draft stock with a solid day.
At 6’5.5” and 314 pounds, Logue has elite measurables for a defensive lineman but lacks elite athleticism. He ran a 5.47 in the 40-yard dash with an unremarkable 1.78 10-yard split and had a 29-inch vertical. His Relative Athletic Score (RAS) despite a lack of agility testing or bench press numbers, came in at 8.22.
On Friday, the defensive backs and tight ends will test, so Tykee Smith, Kamari Lassiter, Javon Bullard, and Brock Bowers will all try to improve their draft stock.
Georgia track and field world record will not be ratified
At the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships, 19-year-old sophomore Christopher Morales Williams qualified for the 400-meter final with a preliminary time of 45.58 and came into the meet with a personal best time of 45.39. Then, in the final, he not only shocked the rest of the conference by winning, but he shocked the entire world by doing it in record time.
Morales Williams ran a 44.49, a massive PR for the Georgia Bulldog, and a new indoor 400-meter world record, breaking Michael Norman’s NCAA record of 4.52 and becoming the first collegiate athlete under the 44.50 barrier. However, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association reported on Tuesday that the record will not be ratified by World Athletics because of an issue with his starting blocks.
Morales Williams’ time will still stand as the NCAA record.

On Day 1 of the NFL Scouting Combine, Zion Logue was not the breakout star, but a defensive lineman, from the team that Georgia bludgeoned in the Orange Bowl, was. Florida State d-lineman Braden Fiske ran a historically fast 4.78 40-yard dash after weighing in at 292 pounds.
Fiske’s Relative Athletic Score of 9.92 which was the 14th highest out of over 1,500 defensive tackles since 1987.
