If Georgia's beatdown of FSU in last year’s Orange Bowl wasn’t enough to shut up disgruntled Seminoles fans still crying about not making the College Football Playoff, then maybe Georgia Tech’s 24-21 win in Week 0 will. Starting the season at No. 10 in the country, Mike Norvell’s team was a favorite to make the 12-team CFP and win the ACC, but those dreams could be in big jeopardy after the shocking upset loss in Dublin.
Florida State fans won’t be interested in making the trip from Tallahassee across the northern border into Georgia anytime soon because the Bulldogs and even Georgia’s little brother can slap them around.
Now, with a big ACC win, does Georgia Tech become a threat to Kirby Smart’s team in the final week of the regular season? We have a very long way to go before saying that. More likely, FSU was massively overrated after losing gobs of talent off last year’s roster that still wasn’t good enough to withstand a single injury at the quarterback position.
Stetson Bennett named backup to Matthew Stafford in LA
After winning back-to-back national championships for the Bulldogs, Stetson Bennett’s NFL career got off to a shaky start. The Georgia legend had to spend the entire season away from the team, but after returning this year for training camp, the former fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams earned the No. 2 job for at least Week 1 and 2 of his second NFL season.
Bennett had an up-and-down preseason with plenty of turnovers, but also some late-game heroics. However, he’ll likely cede the job as Matthew Stafford’s backup to Jimmy Garoppolo once he returns from serving a two-game suspension.
More: Former Bulldogs suffers season-ending injury
After transferring to Georgia Tech in 2023, former Georgia tight end Brett Seither wasn’t on the field with his Yellow Jacket teammate in Dublin for their upset of FSU. Just days before the start of the 2024 regular season, the redshirt senior suffered a season-ending knee injury.
In 2023, Seither caught seven passes for 101 yards and four touchdowns.
