Georgia Bulldogs news: Stetson Bennett as clutch as ever in NFL preseason and more

After missing his rookie season in LA, Stetson Bennett had a shaky start to the 2024 preseason, throwing four interceptions, but as always, he came through at the biggest moment.

Stetson Bennett’s 2024 preseason debut for the LA Rams was, much like his college career, a roller coaster ride. Bennett, a fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2023, played the entire game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and finished 24/38 for 224 yards with one touchdown and a staggering four interceptions. Bennett nearly threw a fifth pick, but the play was reversed due to a penalty.

Yet, Bennett, as clutch as ever, got the ball back with 2:52 left in the fourth quarter, down 12-6, and promptly marched the Rams 70 yards down the field, throwing the game-winning touchdown pass on fourth-and-goal with just four seconds left.

Bennett was away from the team for his entire rookie year, so Sunday’s preseason game was a much-needed return to the football field for the two-time national champion who will be LA’s third-string quarterback behind fellow Bulldog Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Four-star defensive tackle decommits from the Bulldogs

On Sunday, class of 2025 four-star defensive lineman Christian Garrett de-committed from Georgia after announcing his verbal commitment back on June 9. Garrett, who plays his high school football at Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, GA is now expected to head to Georgia Tech according to 247Sports latest predictions.

With the loss of Garrett, Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class has fallen to No. 4 in the country ranked behind Ohio State, Alabama, and LSU, which picked up two three-star commitments last week.

More: Former Georgia quarterback released by Green Bay Packers

Former Georgia five-star recruit Jacob Eason has never been able to find a football home and after he was released over the weekend, that home won’t be in Green Bay either. After two years at Georgia, Eason transferred to Washington and played his final season of college football in 2019 before he was a fourth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2020.

Eason spent two years in Indy and one season in Carolina in 2022 and has attempted 10 career passes in the NFL.
