Will Mykel Williams play today after suffering a Grade 2 left ankle sprain against Clemson?
Head coach Kirby Smart officially announced that Williams would be a game-time decision against the Alabama Crimson Tide today in what most are saying is the biggest game of the season.
The No. 2 Bulldogs will be taking on the No. 4 Crimson Tide tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST, and star defensive lineman Williams will be, as Smart said, a "true game-time decision."
Williams injured his ankle in the first week of the season against Clemson, and it later came out that he had suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain After the news of the injury came out, Williams was labeled as a week-to-week injury to watch but it wasn't something long term.
After the injury in week 1, Williams didn't see the field against Tennessee Tech in Week 2 or Kentucky in Week 3. With a bye in Week 4, it allowed Williams to get a bit healthier and get close to starting today in what will be the biggest game of the season.
The Bulldogs will really need Williams today as they will face Alabama and their prolific offense. Getting to Alabama's quarterback, Jalen Milroe will be crucial in order to win this game, and Williams is the key to that. In the first game of the season, Williams was only able to get two solo tackles on his stat sheet before suffering the injury. In the 2023 season, Williams has 16 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Williams is a highly rated prospect who could head to the NFL next season as Mel Kiper Jr.'s No. 4 overall prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Georgia is hoping to make a statement against Alabama this week as they want to get the money of the Crimson Tide off their back. The Bulldogs believe they are the team to beat now in the SEC, and with Nick Saban gone at Alabama, it is time to pass the torch.
