Georgia football and the rest of the college football world are ready to see the College Football Playoff committee's updated rankings. We are just one week away until the finalized 12-team bracket is released, so this week's rankings are very important as it will show where the final landing spot for a lot of teams will be.

But Georgia still has a lot to play for as a win in the SEC Championship game will give the Bulldogs a top four seed and automatic bye while a loss will force Georgia to play in the first round. So while it is possible for UGA to earn the top four seed, the committee likely won't be giving that to Georgia this week.

So with one week of games still to played, here is our projection for how the committee will rank and seed Georgia this week, as well as who Kirby Smart and Georgia would be playing in their first CFP game.

Georgia's CFP Ranking

Last week, Georgia was the No. 7 team in the country according to the CFP rankings. UGA's 8OT win over Georgia Tech wasn't good enough to convince anyone to move Georgia up in this week's rankings, but two teams in front of Georgia (Miami (FL) and Ohio State) did lose.

So it would be very surprising if Georgia did not move up two spots in the CFP rankings to No. 5 this week.

Georgia's CFP Seed

While Georgia should be the new No. 5 team in the country when the updated CFP rankings get released, their seed will not be that high. The committee will still have Texas as the SEC's projected conference champion which comes with an automatic top four seed, but there will also be three teams seeded higher for the same reason even though some will be ranked lower than Georgia.

On top of that, Penn State and Notre Dame will likely also be seeded higher than Georgia, but neither team will be able to be put in the top four either. So even though Georgia should be ranked No. 5, they will likely end up as the 7-seed in the 12-team CFP bracket this week.

Georgia's projected CFP opponent

Assuming Georgia does get the 7-seed, that means their first round CFP game would take place at Sanford Stadium against the 10-seed. It is hard to predict who will be the 10-seed this week because who knows how far the committee will drop Miami and Ohio State after their losses, but one of the most likely options is Indiana.

This would be a very interesting matchup because Indiana is a team whose offense can put up a lot of points in a hurry. However, the only good team the played this year was Ohio State, and this was a game that Ohio State won pretty easily, so Indiana's 11-1 record is more of a product of their easy schedule than them actually being an elite team.
