Putting Georgia football's SEC dominance into perspective

How often Georgia makes the SEC Championship game is just another example of how dominant they’ve been in recent years.

Georgia football has been one of the top programs in the SEC for quite some time. And over the past four years, they have been the best program in the conference.

From winning two national championships, an SEC title and currently riding a 30-game home winning streak, there are so many different stats and accomplishments that point towards Kirby Smart and Georgia being the best of the best in SEC football.

One stat however that doesn't get talked about enough is how often they get to the SEC Championship game. Sure this stat may not be as important as others, especially if Georgia isn't winning the game as often as some would hope, but this stat indicates how dominant UGA has been, especially against the teams in the East division when it was still around.

SEC Championship game appearances

It did take quite some time for Georgia to reach their first SEC Championship game, 11 years to be exact. But after they did make it to the title game, the Bulldogs never looked back.

Since making it to their first SEC Championship game in 2002, Georgia has gone on to appear in the game 12 out of 23 times. This includes this season after a wild day in the SEC caused Georgia to clinch their spot in this year's title game.

Georgia has now made the last four championship games as well as seven of the last eight. It truly does not get more dominant than that.

The only problem is that Georgia has only won two of their recent SEC Championship game appearances in 2017 and 2022. Hopefully that changes this season, because a loss could keep Georgia out of the College Football Playoff. But a win not only makes them kings of the SEC, but will also earn UGA a top four seed and first round bye in the CFP this season.
