Stetson Bennett’s future with the LA Rams is officially in jeopardy. Bennett has been the third string QB for the Rams ever since he was drafted, but current backup Jimmy Garoppolo is thinking about retirement which opens the door for him to move up a spot on the depth chart.
And with current starter Matthew Stafford aging fast, the Rams will likely be looking for a new starter soon.
That could be Bennett’s chance to finally become a starter in the NFL, but he has a new challenge to face as the Rams drafted former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday.
Some fans believes this was a sign that Bennett is on his way out of LA, but the exact opposite is true. Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about Bennett’s future after they picked Simpson, and he made it very clear that Bennett is in LA to compete.

Sean McVay confirms what’s next for Stetson Bennett with the Rams
After Garoppolo’s retirement announcement it was a given that the Rams would draft a quarterback this year. The fact that they chose to take someone in the first round is extremely telling though.
If they had full faith in Bennett to succeed Stafford then they would’ve waited until the later rounds to take a QB. They however chose to draft Simpson in the first round which shows that Bennett hasn’t earned anything in LA yet.
Bennett has been challenged his entire football career and he has always come out on top. So he will not back down from Simpson as they battle this offseason to be Stafford’s backup. But McVay confirmed that Bennett still has a future in LA for now as he will compete with Simpson this offseason.
Bennett is entering the final year of his rookie contract though, so he is running out of time. Now it’s do or die time for Bennett because if he loses this competition with Simpson he could be looking for a new home next year, but if he wins then he could be in LA for a very long time.
