The Houston Texans are coming off a 10-7 season and claimed the AFC South title. But after losing in the wild card game to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Texans exited the season feeling very disappointed with how it ended.
One thing the Texans immediately began to do was look for someone to beef up their running game and help workhorse running back Joe Mixon, and they had to look no further thanfour-time Pro Bowler Nick Chubb.
Despite suffering a season-ending injury in 2023, Chubb believes he's on the up swing and ready to contribute to a winning culture. "That's all behind me. Injuries happen," Chubb shared with NFL.com. "With what I did, it takes about two years to really get back. So, I'm over the hump. Now, I'm feeling as good as I have been in a long time."
The Texans seem cautiously optimistic, only signing Chubb to a one-year, $2.5 million contract, but given they have lost some key receivers for quarterback C.J. Stroud with Mixon is recovering from an ankle injury, head coach Demeco Ryans may be calling Chubb's number more often.
Joining the Texans' winning culture is the best thing for Chubb's career
Despite his individual success in Cleveland, Chubb had to endure a losing culture as a Brown. From 2018 to 2024, they only had two winning seasons and churned through 11 quarterbacks, which is a recipe for inconsistent results.
However, Chubb's legendary work ethic kept him focused and productive. Now with a new team, he seems poised to join a winning team culture that has stability.
"[I know] the opportunity that I had here with this team, being the up-and-coming team, and the past two years have really turned it on," Chubb continued. "So I knew I had a chance to come here, win a lot of games, surrounded by a great group of people."
Will Joe Mixon recover fully and be 100 percent for the 2025 season? Will the Texans continue their winning ways? Does the addition of Chubb as another offensive weapon help them make a deep playoff run? Smart money would be on the humble, hardworking young man from the iconic Chubbtown community in Georgia.
