The offseason in college football is officially upon us, and that means that rumors are beginning to swirl on the recruiting trail. And considering Georgia football is one of the best programs in the country and going after many of the top players, it it not surprising to find out that Georgia is at the center of a lot of these rumors.
Sometimes these rumors are bad news for Georgia, but Rivals National Recruiting Director Adam Gorney shared a very interesting rumor surrounding the No. 1 player in the country in the 2027 recruiting class.
5-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton
LaDamion Guyton is a five-star EDGE who is the No. 1 overall player in the country according to On3. This means he is also the top ranked EDGE and the No. 1 player from his home state of Georgia as well.
It's always assumed that Kirby Smart and Georgia will aggressively target the top players from the state of Georgia, and Guyton is no exception to that assumption. And based on what Gorney shared in a recent article, it turns out that Georgia is the clear leader in this recruitment as it stands today.
“The Bulldogs are definitely a major front-runner for the No. 1 prospect in 2027,” Gorney shared via uga.rivals.com. “After a recent visit back to Athens, Georgia might have even extended its early lead with Alabama, South Carolina and “maybe” Florida State being considered as well."
But the very next sentence Gorney shared should have every Georgia fan jumping for joy.
”It would be a surprise if Georgia doesn’t close here.”
And if this isn't enough to make you extremely excited, Guton was recently quoted as he discussed what makes Georgia's recruiting pitch different than every other school, and that quote put Georgia in the best light possible.
Guyton's recruitment obviously has a long ways to go since he is in the 2027 class, but it's impossible to not get extremely excited when a national recruiting director says it would be shocking if Georgia didn't win this recruitment. So it may not be time to pop the champagne yet, but it might be time to start making arrangements to do so.
