Athlon Sports recently published an article where they allowed SEC coaches to anonymously speak about every other team in the conference. This gave the coaches a unique chance to speak freely without fear of being criticized, and they took advantage of that.

These coaches took this opportunity to speak about Georgia and predict how they think this season will go for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs. One coach in particular tried to discredit Georgia entering this season, but his attempt to downplay UGA completely blew up in his face.

“They’ll look really similar to how they looked this past year,” the anonymous SEC coach said via athlonsports.com. “I think they’ll be a playoff team, but I don’t know that they’re an elite SEC team like the ones you saw in the early 2020s.”

Anonymous SEC coach gave Georgia a huge compliment on accident

This coach said that he believes Georgia will look really similar to how they did last year. He said this in way to try and tear Georgia down, but maybe he forgot that UGA won the SEC last year and earned the 3-seed in the College Football Playoff.

If that is how this coach thinks this season will go then it looks like Georgia is about to embark on another fun year.

This coach also said that he doesn't believe Georgia will be as talented as they were in the early 2020s, and that is more of a shot at how good he thinks UGA will be this season. But so much has changed in the past few years across the entire sport that this isn't really that hurtful to say either.

Living up to the standard of Georgia in the early 2020s is no longer possible

The Transfer Portal and NIL era in college football has changed everything. Teams like Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State no longer are able to stack talent like they once could because those players further down the depth chart can just transfer and immediately become starters elsewhere.

Georgia in the early 2020s benefited from stacking talent, and that is one of the reasons why they won their back-to-back national titles. This coach doesn't believe that this year's team will have as much talent as those championship winning teams, but that is the most obvious statement of all time.

Not only will Georgia not have as much talent as those teams, but no team in the country will. In fact, until the Transfer Portal rules change no team will probably ever have as much talent as those Georgia teams and the best Alabama teams under Nick Saban. So what was meant to be a dig at Georgia turned out to be the most factual statement in the world.

One thing that is true about Georgia is that they have the most returning production out of every team in the SEC. Considering this talent that is coming back just won the SEC for the second year in a row, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs should be just fine this year.
