Extreme weather is headed Alabama's way. A massive storm has been brewing in the Gulf of Mexico that is expected to impact Georgia'a game at Alabama this weekend, and this storm has grabbed the attention of both football programs, weather experts, the media and even Vegas.
The over-under for this game was originally set at 56.5 points when the odds were first set on Sunday. Since then the over-under has dropped all the way to 51.5 points which shows that Vegas and sports bettors believe this weather will have a huge impact on Saturday's game.
Bad weather could change how Georgia and Alabama play this game
Georgia and Alabama have the top two scoring offenses in the country so far this season. It would be easy to assume this will be a high scoring game after seeing that, but this weather will potentially limit both offenses.
Heavy rain and high winds makes throwing the ball more difficult. Both Georgia and Alabama will likely be forced to run the ball more than they typically would, but the wet conditions could make ball carriers more likely to fumble as well. This weather could turn this game into a defensive struggle, and that's why the over-under is dropping fast.
A defensive battle could favor Georgia this weekend. They not only have the No. 1 scoring offense in the country after scoring a couple more points than Alabama this year, but they have a much better scoring defense. The Bulldogs have the No. 12 scoring defense in the country while Alabama doesn't even crack the top 50.
The last time these teams played in the 2025 SEC Championship game Georgia held Alabama to negative rushing yards. Sure those were two different teams compared to now, but if this game features both offenses heavily running the ball Georgia's defense could have some confidence that they could dominate once again.
It remains to be seen how the weather will impact both teams, but the most likely outcome is both offenses struggling to move the ball more than they have all season which results in less points being scored.
Latest weather report is good news for Georgia and Alabama
A couple days ago the weather report was not looking good. The storm was headed straight for Alabama and it seemed like it was going to hit Tuscaloosa at game time. That however has changed over the last 48 hours.
This storm is still headed for Tuscaloosa, but it is expected to arrive sooner. Tailgating might be a wash on Saturday, but the main part of the storm should be gone before the game begins Saturday night.
There will still be plenty of rain throughout the game with high winds as well, but as the hours go by it seems more and more likely that the worst of the storm will be through Tuscaloosa before kickoff. That means the chances of this game being postponed are much lower than they once were which is something everyone should be happy about.
Game odds adjust periodically and are subject to change.
