Kirby Smart may have no choice but to answer the demands of one of his true freshman.

Every year there are a few true freshman at Georgia who receive a lot of playing time during the regular season. Kirby Smart never promises any of these freshman anything, but the second they arrive on campus it is clear that he has no choice but to play them.

Defensive back Tyriq Green is quickly becoming one of those players as he backed up all the hype he's received this spring with an impressive showing at G-Day.

True freshman Tyriq Green is forcing Kirby Smart to make a tough decision after a dominant G-Day performance

Green was the No. 181 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class. That is a very good ranking, but typically someone ranked just inside the top 200 isn't expected to do too much as a true freshman. Green however is proving that sentiment wrong as he has been dominant all spring.

Hype really began to build after Georgia's first scrimmage two weeks ago when he picked off a pass and ran it all the way back for a touchdown. That play alone made fans extremely excited to see what he could bring to the table during G-Day, and he backed it up with yet another interception.

As Graham Coffey explains in the above post though, he was all over the field on Saturday. He didn't make just one good play, he made countless plays and stood out more than some returning players in the secondary.

Georgia's secondary is very deep this season which includes a few key additions out of the Transfer Portal. But Green is forcing Smart to make a tough decision about how much he should play this fall, and that is something he may not have expected to think about this year.

Green looks to be continuing the tradition of Georgia freshmen breaking through during their first season on campus, so don't be surprised to see him make a lot of big plays all season long this fall.
