One of the biggest splashes Georgia football made in the transfer portal this offseason is when they earned a commitment from Texas A&M wide receiver Noah Thomas. The talented wideout was a top 10 receiver in the portal, so it’s clear how big of a pickup this was for UGA.
But what brought Thomas to Georgia? That is the question everyone always has when a new player transfers to Georgia, and thankfully Thomas explained why he left A&M for Georgia during his press conference on Tuesday.
"No knock on A&M, I just wanted something different," Thomas shared via si.com. “Leaving is definitely something that requires you to mature. It was the first time really living out of state for me. I really see Georgia on a big stage every year. Coach Kirby Smart is a great coach all around, and he’s going to coach you hard, and that’s what every player should want."
Mike Bobo’s pitch to Noah Thomas
One person that unsurprisingly played a big role in Thomas’s recruitment was Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo. And according to Thomas, Bobo’s pitch to him was short and sweet.
“Mike Bobo’s pitch to me was, ‘Come be great, and I wanna be great.’”
Even though this is an extremely simple pitch from Bobo, it is speaks very loudly. Bobo essentially is saying that he thinks Thomas is already an elite player and that he just needs the right opportunity to reach his potential. He’s saying that Thomas just needs to be himself and that should be enough for him to find a lot of success at Georgia.
Hopefully that ends up being the case because UGA’s wide receiver room was not great last season. But his addition, along with fellow transfer Zachariah Branch, should hopefully do the trick for the Bulldogs this fall.
