Starting safety Kyron Jones has been dealing with a foot injury for two weeks now. He missed Georgia’s game against Ole Miss two weeks ago, and at the time Kirby Smart said he was out “indefinitely.”

That term creates a lot of suspicion about when Jones could return. There’s a chance he could be out for the season or that he could return after a few weeks, no one really knew. But Smart shared another update on Monday about his health, and it sounds like Jones could be back on the field sooner than expected.

”Kyron (Jones), we're trying to get him back as soon as we can,” Smart shared via 247Sports.com. “We're hopeful he's able to make it back."

Goegia’s secondary has not been their strength this season. Unfortunately one of their worst games of the season came last time out against Ole Miss when the Rebels were able to move the ball at will for most of the game. However, Jones did not play in that game, so maybe that played into some of UGA’s struggles.

The last thing Georgia’s secondary needed was a significant injury like this. That is why Smart’s original update was so crushing because missing Jones for the rest of the season might be too much to overcome. But this update from Smart does give some hope that he could return to the field soon.

Smart unfortunately did not give a concrete timeline of when Jones could return, so for now it is expected for him to miss Georgia’s matchup with Florida on Saturday. But the Bulldogs are still favored to win by 7.5 points, so they should have no issues beating the Gators without him.

But if Georgia is going to hit their potential this season they need a healthy Jones back. They need the version of him that recorded 10 tackles on the road at Tennessee. And if they can get that version of him back soon, Georgia’s secondary could turn into a strength of this team again.
