Former Georgia football superstar quarterback Stetson Bennett has been the Los Angeles Rams third string quarterback since the Rams drafted him in the 2023 NFL Draft. Bennett is now entering his third season in the league and he doesn't have much to show for it yet, but a new opportunity has fallen into his lap that will give him a chance to prove he belongs.
Stetson Bennett elevated to second string QB
Fellow Bulldog QB Matthew Stafford has held the reigns in Los Angeles for a few years now, but he has recently picked up an injury during training camp. Stafford's injury doesn't appear to be anything serious, but he will be held out for a few weeks just to be cautious.
This means that Bennett will be upgraded to the Rams second string quarterback for the time being as Los Angeles pushes forward with training camp and their upcoming preseason games.
The biggest opportunity for Bennett will be in the Rams first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 9 where he will likely receive a lot of snaps. So if Bennett is ever going to prove that he belongs in the NFL, that will be his best chance.
Bennett will also get a lot more reps during practice as well. This is just as good of a time to show the Rams why he should be part of their long term plan, especially with Stafford's and backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo's contracts expiring in the next two years. So if Bennett can prove himself as a legit NFL quarterback, then maybe the Rams hand him the keys to their offense in a few years.
Bennett has a lot of work to do if he's ever going to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, but Georgia fans know better than anyone that he should never be doubted. And if he keeps making impressive throws like he did last week in practice, things may just work out for him in the end.
